Has this been fixed in Visual Studio 2008, as well as Visual Studio 6?

This was fixed in R163. Other crashes or VS2008-related problems may still exist.

Apparently this wasn't fixed. MTA still crashes when another player enters the game. Not sure why it was working fine when we tested the other night! Reopened.
